I first came in contact with Martha in 1989. She called me to say that my Cambodian wife's younger brother had just arrived in a refugee camp in Thailand. three years later, I met her in Cambodia. She and her husband, Jamie, and I and other NGO workers would often have a beer or two near the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh on Friday evening. She was a special person.
